El estado de ánimo del niño tiene gran influencia en su comportamiento y pulso, el cual dependerá del ambiente que lo rodea, por lo que es importante para el odontopediatra el manejo y conocimiento de técnicas para mejorar estos factores durante la consulta, y brindarle al niño una mejor experiencia en su primera visita al odontólogo, llevando a cabo el tratamiento correcto, en tiempo adecuado. En este estudio experimental de corte transversal se analizó la influencia de recursos audiovisuales en el pulso y estado de ánimo de pacientes de 3 a 12 años de edad, que asistieron por primera vez al área de odontopediatría de la clínica odontológica Dr. René Puig Bentz de la UNPHU, donde se midió el pulso antes y durante el procedimiento utilizando un oxímetro, y el estado de ánimo utilizando el RMS Pictorial Scale antes y durante el procedimiento, en 50 pacientes, a los que se les entregó un ipad para distraerlos durante el procedimiento de profilaxis y aplicación de flúor. Los resultados mostraron que la población de 7 a 9 años presentó la menor variación de pulso (-2.91bpm) entre la media antes y durante el tratamiento y la población de 10 a 12 años presentó la mayor variación en el pulso (5.82bpm). El estado de ánimo de la población general mejoró durante del tratamiento, registrando a 27 (54%) pacientes que se sentían “Muy feliz” antes del procedimiento y 38 (73%) durante; lo que sugiere que los recursos audiovisuales influyen positivamente en la experiencia del niño durante la visita odontológica.
