The following recommendations provide an approach to the establishment of guidelines for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of hepatitis C virus infection. These guidelines are based on a formal analysis and review of recently published literature around the world. Written for use especially by physicians, the recommendations suggest a range of possibilities for the epidemiology, diagnosis, and Treatment of Hepatitis C infection, but without any intention of establishing standards of care for individual patients. Although we suggest that the recommendations in these guidelines be applied appropriately according to the history of each patient, we emphasize the flexible character (individualization) of these recommendations because they are written as guidelines.
