El objetivo general de este estudio consistió en investigar los riesgos en la salud y el ambiente de la población del Distrito Nacional por la problemática en el manejo de los desechos de envases y residuos de medicamentos contaminados, caducados o no, por parte de la población dominicana, desde las Farmacias Comunitarias Privadas.
El tipo de investigación fue no experimental, deductiva, descriptiva, bibliográfica, exploratoria, analítica, clasificada como un diseño mixto con alcances solo al objeto de estudio. La metodología de investigación consistió en realizar entrevistas estructuradas a través de cuestionarios aplicados a las autoridades del Ministerio de Salud Pública y Asistencia Social (MSP), autoridades del Ayuntamiento del Distrito Nacional (ADN), autoridades del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MIMARENA), recolectores de desechos sólidos llamados “buzos”, Farmacias Comunitarias Privadas (FCPs) del Distrito Nacional, que se encuentran legalmente registradas en la Dirección General de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Productos Sanitarios (DIGEMAPS).
Los resultados y conclusiones obtenidas. La salud pública y ambiental del Distrito Nacional está en riesgo debido al mal manejo de los desechos de envases y residuos de medicamentos. El MSP y MIMARENA carecen de estrategias para la recolección de desechos de residuos de medicamentos desde las FCPs. El ADN no se ha integrado con las otras instituciones en la recogida de los desechos de envases y residuos de medicamentos.
En el Vertedero de Duquesa carecen de estrategias de manejo de estos desechos de residuos de medicamentos, no tienen las formas de tratamiento que requieren y muchas veces no tienen control de lo que pasa con estos ya que no tiene un instructivo para saber cómo manejarlos. Muchas de las FCPs desechan sus medicamentos en la basura convencional.
Se realizó la propuesta de una Política de Gestión de Desechos de Envases y Residuos de Medicamentos Contaminados, Caducados o no, por parte de la Población Dominicana, desde las Farmacias Comunitarias Privadas.

The general objective of this study consisted of investigating the health and environmental risks of the population of the Distrito Nacional for the problematic in the handling of the waste of containers and residues of contaminated drugs, expired or not, by the Dominican population, from the Private Community Pharmacies.
The type of research was non-experimental, deductive, descriptive, bibliographic, exploratory, analytical, classified as a mixed design with scope only to the object of study. The research methodology consisted of conducting structured interviews through questionnaires applied to the authorities of Ministerio de Salud Pública y Asistencia Social (MSP), authorities of Ayuntamiento del Distrito Nacional (ADN), authorities of Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MIMARENA) ), solid waste collectors called "divers", Private Community Pharmacies (FCPs) of the National District, who are legally registered in the Dirección General de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Productos Sanitarios (DIGEMAPS).
The results and conclusions obtained. The public and environmental health of the National District is at risk due to mishandling of packaging waste and drug residues. The MSP and MIMARENA lack strategies for the collection of waste from pharmaceutical residues from the FCPs. The DNA has not been integrated with the other institutions in the collection of waste packaging and medicine waste.
In Vertedero de Duquesa they lack strategies for the management of these residues of medication residues, they do not have the forms of treatment they require and often they do not have control over what happens with these since they do not have an instruction to know how to handle them. of FCPs discard their medications in conventional waste.
A proposal was made for a Waste Management Policy for Containers and Residues of Contaminated Medicines, Expired or not, by the Dominican Population, from the Private Community Pharmacies.
