A descriptive cross-sectional study with prospective data collection was carried
out to determine the prevalence of mitral regurgitation in patients with mitral valve
prolapse of the Dr. Salvador Bienvenido Gautier Hospital in the period July 2017-
March 2018. 29.4 percent of the patients were 50-59 years old. 64.7 percent of the
patients corresponded to the female sex. The 82.3 percent of patients presented
prolapse of the mitral anterior leaflet in the heart valves. 82.3 percent of the patients
had normal cardiac cavities. The 47.0 percent of the patients had the thickness of the
normal cardiac walls. 100.0 percent of the patients had normal segmental mobility.
94.1 percent of the patients had normal ventricular systolic function. 26.5 percent of
the patients were found with the Doppler mitral regurgitation study. The
echocardiogram was evaluated on average, the right ventricle presented 31.0 mm,
the left ventricle with 45.6 mm, the septum IV 10.2 mm, the posterior wall with 7.8
mm, the right atrium with 33.4 mm, the aortic root with 30.0 mm, the left atrium 35.6
mm, the shortening frac with 38.1%, the frac. Ejection of 67.7%, ring with 20.9 mm,
art. Pulmonary with a 19.1 mm, the TAPSE with a 30.3 mm, the inferior vena cava
with a 15.6 mm and the mass of the LV with a 111.7 gr.
