An observational, descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional study was conducted with the objective of comparing the efficacy of the Epley and Semont replenishment maneuvers in the treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo presented by the Diagnostic Medicine and Telemedicine Center (CEDIMAT) between December 2017 and May 2018. This research work is due to the fact that in our country, the Dominican Republic, no publications have been identified to establish the effectiveness of the Epley and Semont maneuvers due to the lack of research in this area. The population was constituted by all the patients that went to the Department of Otoneurology. The sample was represented by 43 patients diagnosed with BPPV with a mean age of 60 years. Of these, the most frequent were the age group of 40-59 and ≥60 (37.2%) respectively; predominantly female patients (65.1%). Our results reflect that the position of going to bed and incorporating with 55.8 and 44.2 percent respectively, are the most dominant at the moment of producing the symptoms. Vertigo attacks may be associated with neurovegetative symptoms and the results showed 53.5 percent of our cases. The duration of the rotational movement during the episode of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo in 76.7 percent was less than one minute. There is no evidence of a relationship between the time of illness and the number of maneuvers necessary to cure BPPV. We had 16.3 percent of the patients without any improvement after the application of the maneuvers two weeks later. Discarding other pathologies and without needing any other type of maneuver or medical treatment, the maneuvers of Semont and Epley are equally effective in patients with benign paroxysmal postural vertigo.
