The Ponseti method is a technique that involves a series of gentle manipulations and corrective casts, which are changed every week, to correct all the components of the deformity caused by the equinovarus foot and have patients with plantigrade feet, flexible, pain-free and can use normal footwear When achieving correction, a microsurgery of the Achilles tendo is usually done to lengthen it. Then the treatment with orthopedic devices (bar shoes) is started, to maintain the correction of the foot obtained with the plasters. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of the application of the Ponseti method in the short and medium term in children under one year diagnosed with Equinovarus Foot in the Ponseti clinic of the Dr. Dario Contreras University Teaching Hospital (HDUDDC) in the period September 2018 - February 2019.
In this study, 45 patients were included, who presented at the Ponseti Clinic of the Dr. Dario Contreras University Teaching Hospital (HDUDDC), diagnosed with equinovarus foot, which a total of 51.1 percent had bilateral involvement, and in the unilateral involvement of the left foot and right foot there were a total of 24.4 percent respectively.
During our observation, we determined that of the 45 patients only 7 had a moderate range within the severity scale, presenting by 15.5 percent of the total, and only 4.4 percent of the total patients abandoned the treatment.
