(CRESA). Septiembre 2019 - Febrero 2020. Materiales y métodos: Se llevó a
positivo (42.9%), verdadero negativo (38.1%), falso positivo (14.3%) y falso
negativo (4.8%).
To determine the efficacy of PET / CT 18F-FDG in the evaluation
of treatment and tumor recurrence at the Center for Specialized Radiology
(CRESA). September 2019 – February 2020. Materials and methods: An
observational, descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study was carried
out in order to assess the diagnostic efficacy of PET / CT 18F-FDG in patients
with oncological pathologies. The sample consisted of 41 patients divided into
21 patients with the aim of studying assessing the response to treatment (ART)
and 20 for suspected recurrence (SR). Results: The most frequently found types
of cancer were: Breast Cancer (30.1%) and Hodgkin's Lymphoma (18%). Of the
patients evaluated for ART, 52.4 percent were in remission. 70 percent of the
patients studied for SR lacked compatible findings with disease return. The
patients had previous studies of: computed tomography (97.6%), magnetic
resonance imaging (48.8%) and x-ray images (41.5%). In patients studied for
ART the percentage of diagnostic results was: true positive (42.9%), true
negative (38.1%), false positive (14.3%) and false negative (4.8%). In the group
studied for SR the percentage distribution of the diagnostic results was: true
positive (25%), true negative (60%), false positive (5%) and false negative
(10%). The specificity of PET/CT 18F-FDG to ART was 73 percent and to
evaluate the SR was 92.3 percent. The sensitivity in the ART was 72.7 percent
and for SR 71.4 percent. The positive predictive value in the ART was 75 percent
and 83.3 percent in SR. The negative predictive value obtained a 88.9 percent
in the patients for ART and 85.7 percent in those studied for SR. In the group
studied for SR, the distribution of the results was: true positive (25%), true
negative (60%), false positive (5%) and false negative (10%). Conclusions: PET
/ CT 18F-FDG proved to be effective in the clinical evaluation and follow-up of
the patients studied. It allowed a change in therapeutic management in 11 of the 21 patients evaluated for ART and in 4 of 20 for SR.
